KLM
is sponsoring professional yachtsman Koen van Esch while he prepares for and participates in
the Transat 2007, a biennial single-handed sailing competition spanning a distance of 4,200 nautical
miles between France and Brazil, with a stopover on the island of Madeira.
On September 16, eighty single-handed yachtsmen will set sail from La Rochelle in their 6.5-meter
yachts to make the grueling ocean crossing.
Before then, Van Esch will participate in the Flying Dutchman in the Transcasgogneon, which starts
on Sunday between Port Bourgenay in France and Santander in Spain, and in the 24-hour
IJsselmeer race on August 24 and 25.
Van Esch’s yacht is
named the Flying Dutchman and both the yacht and its sails boast the
color and logo of sponsor KLM.
