On January 15, 2007 , Silversea's
luxury Silver Shadow departed Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades on her first World Cruise amid
much fanfare and cheering well-wishers. The 382-guest, all-suite ship embarked on an epic 126-day voyage that will cross three oceans,
seven seas and six continents, visiting 60 ports of call, before concluding in New York City on May 22.
Festivities to mark the occasion started the prior evening when guests sailing the full voyage were feted with a gala dinner party in the
spectacular Cathedral dining room at the Boca Raton Resort. Elegantly attired ladies and gentlemen -- many sporting exclusive silver pins
designed by Tiffany to commemorate the World Cruise -- were serenaded by trumpeters, a classical cellist and a ten-piece orchestra as
they wined, dined and danced the night away. Silversea's Ambassador, actress Isabella Rossellini,
who joined
the celebration to mingle and personally extend her best wishes, delighted guests and put the finishing touches on an unforgettable
evening.
At 11:00 a.m. the next day, guests boarded the elegant Lady Windridge yacht for a sumptuous lunch and a leisurely sail along the
Intracoastal Waterway to Port Everglades, where they embarked Silver Shadow in grand style. This privileged club of globe-trekking
travelers was royally greeted with a fireboat water salute and a plane towing a banner that read "BON VOYAGE SILVER SHADOW WORLD
CRUISE 2007." The famous University of Miami marching band and cheerleaders were also stationed on the pier to greet arriving guests
with music, waves and cheers.
"A voyage around the world is the event of a lifetime," said Joseph Proto, Silversea's director of World Cruise and business development.
"So we pulled out all the stops to give Silver Shadow and her guests a truly memorable send-off. We are especially grateful that Isabella
Rossellini was able to personally join our guests at their gala dinner to wish each of them a wonderful journey on the eve of their
departure."
Silver Shadow, though intimate in design, is
one of the most spacious cruise ships in the world with a space ratio of 74.0; that equates
to 7,400 cubic feet of space per guest, a distinction shared with sister ship Silver Whisper.
On January 16, 2008, Silver Shadow is set to embark on her second World Cruise, a 110-day voyage encircling the world and embracing
the cultures of more than 25 countries and over 50 ports of call. Departing from Fort Lauderdale, she will sail through the Panama Canal
and along the Mexican Riviera, following a route of enchantment to no less than four tropical Hawaiian hideaways. Intriguing island
destinations like the tranquil Northern Mariana Islands, the Marshall Islands, Pohnpei, Guam, Okinawa and historic Iwo Jima, all previously
unexplored by Silversea, will host inaugural calls. Guests will discover exotic Far East traditions and the timeless beauty of Egypt. They'll
savor some of the world's most cherished cuisines and explore the splendors of Italy and Spain before crossing the Atlantic to a warm
Caribbean welcome, returning full-circle to Fort Lauderale. Highlights of this epic journey will include extended overnight calls in Hong
Kong, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Mumbai and Barcelona.
Fares for World Cruise 2008 start at US$58,210 per person, based on double occupancy.
