Wellington and Wairarapa’s accommodation has grabbed the international spotlight recently, with several publications
giving out some top credits.
Two Wellington properties were selected to appear in internationally-acclaimed travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller’s
2007 Gold List.
The list features a selection of accommodation providers, with categories for best service, rooms, food, ambience and
design, location and leisure facilities.
Bolton Hotel, located in central Wellington, appears in the Best for Rooms category, alongside
international picks such as The Soho Hotel in London and Chateau de Bagnols in Lyon, France.
The boutique hotel’s 142 rooms and suites were described as “particularly chic, decorated in soft, earthy tones and
local art”.
Wharekauhau Country Estate, located in south Wairarapa, appears in the Best for Ambience/Design list. It is the only
New Zealand property in this category, receiving top marks for its “sophisticated country-house
atmosphere.”
YHA Wellington City has also grabbed some headlines. The downtown backpacker was ranked ‘Number 1 in the world’
