LAN Airlines
is to strengthen its South American network from 26 March, when it launches daily flights between
Buenos Aires and the historic Argentine city of Salta.
The new services are in response to the growing popularity of Salta, founded in 1582 by the Spanish conquistador
Hernando de Lerma as an outpost between Buenos Aires and Lima, Peru.
“Salta is located in the north-west corner of Argentina, at the foot of the Andes Mountains, close to the borders of
Chile, Bolivia and Paraguay. It is one of the most beautiful and diverse locations in all of South America,” said Rodrigo
Contreras, General Manager Australia, New Zealand and Asia for LAN Airlines.
“The Spanish colonial influence in Salta is very pronounced, not only in the architecture and narrow streets, but in the
cuisine and the festivals of the region,” he said. “As well, Salta is the gateway to a flourishing wine region, and is the
starting point for the tren a las nubes, or Train to the Clouds, one of the world’s most spectacular rail journeys, which
passes through the clouds as it crosses the Andes Mountains at more than 4000 feet above sea level.”
Flight LA 4110 will depart Buenos Aires (BUE) at 6.30pm, arriving in Salta (SLA) just over two hours later at 8.35pm. The
return service, flight LA 4111, will leave Salta at 9.15pm, arriving back in Buenos Aires at 11.25pm.
The flights will be operated with new Airbus A320 twinjets, configured to seat up to 156 passengers in a single-class
cabin, and will be added to the 2007 LAN Visit South America Airpass, which has just been released for sale.
