In a thunder of footsteps, fitness enthusiasts, charity supporters and members of the public will be
returning to the Banyan Tree Bangkok on Sunday, 9 September 2007 for the 9th Vertical Marathon.
The
finishing point is at the hotels former helicopter pad, now converted to the
popular Vertigo restaurant on the 61st floor, one of the highest al fresco hotel restaurants in Asia.
A small registration fee of 350
Baht (roughly US$ 10) per person includes the official marathon t-shirt and a
meal box. Trophies from HRH Princess Soamsawali, luxurious accommodation and gift vouchers are
also up for grabs for winners of other categories.
Running up 1,093 steps is a fun and exciting challenge for participants of all ages. In previous races,
the fastest time achieved is 6 minutes and 9 seconds by Thai national, Khun Napadol
Lalee.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the HIV Formula Feeding Fund, a Thai Red Cross initiative under the patronage of Her Royal
Highness Princess Soamsawali.
Last year, the event raised a total of 508,000 baht (US$14,515) for the HIV Formula Feeding Fund, a charity
that the Banyan Tree Bangkok has been supporting for over four years. The fund aids vulnerable HIV patients, especially children, who require
extra care and support.
