Tiger Airways
has appointed Mr Steve Burns as its new Chief Operating Officer. Burns, 33, will be responsible for strategic and operational
leadership of the airline in its network development across Asia
Pacific.
Burns
will lead Tiger Airways in consolidating recent corporate and network developments –
the expansion of its Australian operations, the establishment of Incheon Tiger Airways in
Korea and the attainment of rights to service new routes like the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur
route.
Burns has over 10 years of experience in the aviation industry, including various
management roles in easyJet and bmibaby. At bmibaby, Burns was the Commercial Director
of the low-cost arm of UK-based bmi British Midland. He oversaw the airline’s Network
Development strategy, Revenue Management, eCommerce, Ancillary Revenues and
Customer Service functions growing bmibaby’s network by 30%, including a 60%
growth at Birmingham, making it the largest airline in the UK Midlands.
Burn’s previous eight years at UK-based easyJet, one of Europe’s most commercially
successful LCCs, saw him in various commercial management roles from Marketing to
Revenue Management and Network Profit Management.
“My main priority is to aid Tiger Airways in its development as a thought-leader in the
industry. It will include leading the airline’s network development as the airline grows its fleet
to 70 aircraft. I am excited about this opportunity and look forward to new challenges from
the Asia Pacific network” said Burns.
Burns is Irish and holds a Masters degree in Air Transport Management from Cranfield
University, UK and a Masters degree in Engineering (Aerospace Engineering) from
University of Manchester, UK.
