MSC Cruises,
an Italian-owned cruise company, this week launched its latest mega-ship, MSC Orchestra, in an elaborate and colourful
ceremony that truly reflected the company’s Italian roots.
MSC Orchestra, the most luxurious and lavishly fitted-out cruise liner to date in the MSC fleet, was christened in Venice, Italy in the presence of
MSC Cruises’ “Godmother,” the legendary actress, Sophia Lauren.
The liner departed from Civitavecchia to Genoa on her inaugural voyage, taking in the spectacular coastline scenery en route.
MSC Orchestra is an integral element in the ongoing development of the MSC Cruises brand. Its facilities, many of which have been designed
with Asian tourists in mind, include an exciting variety of dining and entertainment options including the company’s very first Chinese restaurant,
“Shanghai”.
The intimate 68-seat eatery will serve a variety of regional Chinese cuisine from Beijing, Shanghai, Canton and Szechuan. In addition to indigenous recipes from the four regions, Shanghai Chinese restaurant will also serve
delicious soups, exciting rice and noodle dishes and a great array of traditional desserts. A selection of exquisite Dim Sum items, served from an
elegant rolling trolley, complements the menu.
Superb leisure offerings include a spa, beauty centre, luxury brand boutiques, golf simulator and a casino. There is also a wine tasting room and
a cigar bar.
As with all MSC ships, MSC Orchestra is a standard bearer for the company’s “True Italian Signature,” taking the style, design, cuisine and
service that are the landmarks of every MSC Cruises ship to a new level of floating refinement. In an atmosphere of warm and welcoming Italian
hospitality, a total of 2,550 cruising passengers will experience amenities from 13 decks.
The 89,600-ton Panamax vessel also demonstrates the latest technological advances, along innovative and classically elegant lines.
MSC Orchestra’s summer programme, which
runs until December, features various 7-night and 11-night cruises, such as
leaving from Venice to Bari in Italy, to Olympics’ origin Katakolon in Greece, to Izmir and Istanbul in Turkey, to Dubrovnik in Croatia and finally
returning to Venice.
