High Investor Demand for Private Pool Villas at Shangri-La's New Resort in Phuket

Travel News Asia Thursday, 1 March 2007

Thirty per cent of the 50 stunning private pool villas for sale at Shangri-La’s new landmark resort and spa in Phuket, opening in 2008, have been reserved following a recent sales launch and exhibition in Hong Kong.

These launch events, both held at the Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong, attracted numerous potential investors with over 50 visitors a day meeting the CB Richard Ellis sales team at the three-day exhibition.

“We are extremely pleased with the level of interest and number of reservations that have resulted from our launch in Hong Kong. With the integrity of the Shangri-La brand, the high quality design of the villas and the structured income arrangement, buyers are clearly spotting a great investment opportunity.” said David Simister, Chairman of CB Richard Ellis Thailand.

The 50 exclusive private residences with lap pools will be an integrated part of Shangri-La’s Phuket Resort and Spa. The 360 square meter villas will all include a private swimming pool and substantial gardens with water features. These 50 pool villas will be sold on a leasehold basis, where ownership entitlements are in accordance with the current and proposed foreign ownership laws in Thailand.

Arcadia Design Architects of Huelva, Spain, have designed two different villas, both with two en-suite bedrooms, living and dining areas, kitchen, and large terraces.

Phuket is one of Asia’s premium residential resort markets and attracts increasing numbers of global buyers in search of stunning properties, exceptional locations and guaranteed privacy.

Phuket's appeal is enhanced by a range of world-class facilities including international hospitals, international schools and world-class sporting facilities. Within half an hour of Shangri-La’s Phuket Resort and Spa are three marinas and six golf courses, including Blue Canyon Country Club, ranked amongst the best in Asia.

Villa owners will benefit from the resort’s wide selection of restaurants and recreational facilities. Dining options will include a piazza with open kitchens and cafes; a grill; a Thai restaurant; two pool restaurants; a tapas bar and lobby lounge.

CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La – Shangri-La’s signature spa brand – will be located in its own spa village in the resort. Inspired by the legend of Shangri-La, CHI offers treatments based on ancient Chinese and Himalayan healing rituals and traditions.

Recreational facilities will include a health club, tennis courts, water sports, kids’ club, entertainment centre and three swimming pools, with a feature pool that will measure 3,000 square metres and cascades over three levels.

Shangri-La’s Phuket Resort and Spa is being developed with extensive lagoons, tropical gardens and a natural river in over 20 hectares on Bang Tao beach, 25 minutes from Phuket International Airport on the island's prestigious west coast.

CBRE estimates that in Phuket, well-managed rental properties produce rental returns of 6-8% a year.
