The Westin Guangzhou has
launched an Unwind Evening Ritual - a daily interactive entertainment during which six ladies dressed in traditional Chinese cheongsams glide down a long flight of stairs
to the centre of the lobby carrying lit candles in small glass vases - accompanied by special
'unwind' music. Guest guests are also able to participate in traditional Chinese painting of bone
chinaware.
Unwind, a Westin Evening Ritual is the Westin brands
initiative to help guests transform from
daytime to evening, and features activities based around local culture and
performances or activities that guests can participate in. The Unwind
Ritual takes place at
sunset in all Westin lobbies around the world, but is different in each hotel.
The Westin Guangzhous Unwind Evening Ritual is a mixture of music and art.
The six ladies gather in the central part of the lobby in an intimate circle while the lights dim for the ceremonious lighting of
candles around the hotel lobby. The candles remain lit through the night, providing a softer evening ambience for guests at the hotel. At the
same time, the crystal clear and melodic tones of the traditional Chinese Guzheng can be heard throughout the lobby as the musician runs
her graceful fingers through each of its 21 strings.
To complement the atmosphere of the Unwind ritual, guests at The Westin Guangzhou are also offered the chance to participate in a creative
Unwind activity, where they can hand paint their own piece of bone chinaware - a plate, tea or coffee cup with a flower or icon, or even paint
their own names in a range of different colors as the mood takes them. The china is burnt in the hotels kiln overnight and given to the guest
in a pretty package to take home as a gift at the time of check-out.
There is also a special Unwind menu of light snacks and cocktails which are selected to help guests unwind at the end of the day. These
include a range of signature martinis with light amounts of fruit or crme mixes, as well as a selection of light Chinese style tapas such as
steamed scallops with black bean sauce (RMB30) and mandarin and duck rice paper rolls (RMB20).
