Virgin
Blue has pledged its support for the launch of a new Aviation High
School, based at Hendra in Brisbane, through a bursary programme for
specialist students and an annual Dux Award for outstanding academic
achievement.
The
'Virgin Blue High Altitude Award for Academic Excellence' will be
presented to the Dux of Aviation High each year, who will receive
domestic tickets on Virgin Blue and A$500 for their academic
achievements.
The
Virgin Blue Aviation High Bursary programme will be open for application
later this year by students seeking to enter Aviation High's junior
school Grade 8-10 undergraduates and senior school Grades 11-12.
Virgin
Blue Airlines CEO, Brett Godfrey, said, ""At a time when there
is a growing demand for specialist professions including in aerospace
and aviation, it is a forward-thinking initiative, and a unique
opportunity for young Australians to gain pre-tertiary specialisation in
an exciting industry."
Nearby
to Brisbane's domestic and international airports precinct, Aviation
High aims to ensure its secondary graduates are well-positioned to take
up careers in the aviation and aerospace industries.
The
high school offers a specialised curriculum and is working with the
aviation industry, universities, and training organisations to provide
students with direct pathways to careers in the aviation and aerospace
industry.
