The famed Indian coastal resort town of Goa will become SriLankan Airlines’ 50th global destination, and the 10th in India, when the airline
commences services from Colombo on 30 October 2006.
SriLankan is the largest foreign carrier operating to India, with nearly 100 weekly flights to New Delhi, Bombay, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Madras,
Trichy, Trivandrum, Calicut, and Kochi.
Ian Robinson, Regional Manager Australia for SriLankan Airlines, said India was the largest single market for the airline, and offered continued
opportunities for strong growth.
“We have positioned ourselves as the link between India and the rest of the world, and we have been steadily expanding our presence there in
the last few years,” said Mr Robinson. “We are very excited about services to Goa, which we see as having excellent commercial prospects.”
The twice-weekly Colombo-Goa flights, which will take two hours, are scheduled for Mondays and Saturdays.
Travel between India and Sri Lanka is at an all-time high with Indians being among the most frequent visitors to Sri Lanka. In return, Sri Lankans
now rank as the third largest block of visitors to India, after the United States and Britain.
