Accor has signed management contracts for two new hotels, Novotel 1 Borneo, Kota Kinabalu and Mercure Waterfront, Kota Kinabalu, each
located in distinct districts of the fast growing capital city of Sabah East Malaysia.
The 263-room Novotel is scheduled to open in 2008 as an important component of 1 Borneo, Kota Kinabalu’s largest lifestyle mega mall that will
include a 600 outlet retail shopping complex, residential condominium and office tower. The development is adjacent to Kota Kinabalu’s industrial
Park, University Malaysia Sabah Polytechnic School and 15 minutes drive from the airport.
The hotel design incorporates many of the latest Novotel design features, including the innovative BIZ Executive Floor and BIZ Lounge
concepts.
It will also feature a coffee shop and one specialty restaurant, lobby lounge and bar, 1,800sqm ballroom, four adjacent meeting rooms, swimming
pool, fitness centre and spa.
Mercure Waterfront, Kota Kinabalu will be an important part of the Waterfront development, considered one of Kota Kinabalu’s up-and-coming
entertainment and shopping districts. Built on prime seafront land it will offer sweeping views of both the ocean and mighty Mount
Kinabalu.
The hotel is scheduled to open in November 2006 with 212 guest rooms, 2 meeting rooms, a coffee shop, lobby lounge and bar, swimming Pool,
fitness centre and state-of-the-art spa.
Accor Vice President Operations – Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Philippines, Patrick Basset said the two hotels provide Accor with a strategic
presence in one of East Malaysia’s leading commercial capital cities.
“These hotels are in two of Kota Kinabalu’s fastest growing areas and are poised to become exciting business, nightlife and shopping districts.
They both have broad appeal for either corporate and leisure visitors, making each hotel more attractive to a wider clientele.”
