Indochina's boutique chain Victoria Hotels & Resorts is leading a 'Green Day' campaign to improve the environment around its six luxury
'off-the-beaten-track' retreats in Vietnam and Cambodia.
The environmental initiative is being mounted on 16th September at the French group's mountain and beach spa resorts in Vietnam, the
Mekong Delta, and Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
Participating in the clean-up are Victoria Hotels & Resorts staff along with local volunteers and students. Highlights of the initiative
include:
* Cleaning around Lake Sapa, close to Victoria Sapa Resort in Vietnam's north-west highlands;
* Tidying the Hoi An river and beaches near Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort and Spa, on the outskirts of the World Heritage-listed port;
* Clearing refuse along a kilometre road leading to Victoria Phan Thiet Beach Resort and
Spa, 200km north of Ho Chi Minh City;
* Collecting refuse from the riverbank at Victoria Can Tho Resort, the first luxury colonial-style hotel in the Mekong Delta;
* Cleaning and repairing refuse containers on Sam Mountain, a trail close to the Victoria Chau Doc Hotel, deep in the delta close to the
Cambodia border;
* And conducting a clean-up of the world-famous temples at Angkor Wat in Cambodia, close to the Victoria Angkor Resort & Spa.
"Our aim is to encourage everyone to preserve a green, clean and fresh environment to welcome our visitors to Vietnam and Cambodia,"
said Mr. Eric Simard, Managing Director of Victoria Hotels & Resorts.
"As a leading luxury hotel and resort group, we have a responsibility to set an example. Our properties are in areas far from the madding
crowds of modern tourism, where local people are slowly learning that a clean environment is a welcoming one for tourists – as well as
being something which benefits the entire local community."
