The Automobile and Touring Club for the UAE has formed an alliance with
Hertz car rental company, boosting its drive to centralise services for motoring tourists and travellers, as well as control of motor sport, in the Emirates.
As the official car rental supplier to the ATCUAE, Hertz UAE will provide a fleet of vehicles for year-round use by the organisation and also
support initiatives such as a campaign to counter the sale of forged international driving permits.
After signing an agreement with Hertz UAE General Manager, Bob Farrow, ATCUAE President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said
on Sunday that he hoped the new alliance can be developed on an international basis to bring greater benefits for UAE motorists.
Bob Farrow
said, “Under Mohammed’s guidance the ATCUAE is forging ahead with wide-ranging plans to enhance services for motoring
tourists and travellers, and to shape the future of motor sport in the Emirates. We want to work closely with him and his team to support these
initiatives on a long-term basis.”
In July the ATCUAE joined forces with Emirates Post to fight the sale of forged international driving permits which can lead to serious
implications for motorists when they drive overseas.
Legitimate International Driving Permits (IDPs), issued exclusively in the Emirates by the ATCUAE, went on sale at each of the 82 Emirates Post
outlets across the country.
As a result of the ATCUAE alliance with Hertz UAE, motorists buying IDPs from an Emirates Post Office will now receive a voucher giving 10%
discount on car rental bookings worldwide made through the Hertz international reservations office in Dubai.
“We’re supporting the ATCUAE in its efforts to end the illegal trade in forged international driving documents,” said Bob Farrow. “We can
certainly help raise awareness of the problems people can face if they buy forged documents, have an accident when driving overseas, and find
that their insurance is invalid as a result.”
The ATCUAE will have the use of a range of Hertz vehicles to assist with the organisation of international motorsport events and activities
throughout the year, beginning with this week’s UAE Desert Challenge.
In addition to the Desert Challenge, which was the Middle East’s first world championship Motorsport event, the ATCUAE also organises the
Dubai and UAE International Rallies – both rounds of the FIA Middle East Championship – and oversees the complete range of motor sport
activities in the UAE.
