Singapore Airlines to launch Flights to Abu Dhabi

Travel News Asia 6 January 2006

Singapore Airlines is to commence a three-times-weekly service to Abu Dhabi from 1 March 2006. This will be the airline’s second destination in the United Arab Emirates, complementing existing flights to Dubai.

The 2-class Boeing 777-200 services will depart Singapore on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday of each week, at 1300 hours, arriving at 1630 hours the same day. From Abu Dhabi, the flights will continue on to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

Abu Dhabi is the largest of the seven Emirates that comprise the UAE and is its federal capital as well. An exporter of oil since the 1960s, Abu Dhabi is a modern and prosperous state and in recent times, this Emirate has emerged as a major financial hub in the Middle East, while also enhancing its reputation as a leading Middle Eastern tourist destination.

Abu Dhabi offers a range of tourist activities, from numerous shopping malls, to camel rides and bedouin-style feasts under starry nights in the desert.

“The United Arab Emirates is a major destination for tourism and investment. Singapore Airlines flights to Abu Dhabi, the second point in UAE, will therefore help to build these trade, investment and tourist links, not only between Singapore and the UAE, but across the Southeast Asian, the South-west Pacific and the Gulf regions”, said Mr Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines’ Executive Vice-President Marketing and the Regions.

With the introduction of Singapore Airlines service to Moscow via Dubai, also on 1 March 2006, the re-routing of the three-times-weekly Jeddah flights via Abu Dhabi will see Singapore Airlines serve the United Arab Emirates thirteen times weekly: ten times to Dubai and three times to Abu Dhabi.
