The Peak Tower is
aiming to become one of Hong Kong’s most sought-after dining destinations when it reopens after a multi-million dollar
revitalisation programme. A stellar line-up of new restaurants is scheduled to open in September and October, while the chic and contemporary
lower retail area will open in the second week of July.
The new array of food and beverage outlets includes internationally-renowned imports, as well as individualistic concepts from some of Hong
Kong’s leading restaurant operators.
“The eclectic mix of high quality dining options completes our vision for this iconic Hong Kong landmark," said Martyn Sawyer, Group General
Manager, Properties and Clubs of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited (HSH), which owns the building.
The highlights are four signature restaurants, all with stunning views, that encompass modern Australian, Chinese, Japanese and American
seafood concepts.
Managed by m.a.x. concepts, Pearl on the Peak will feature high ceilings, floor to ceiling glass walls and extraordinary views of Hong Kong. As well
as being one of the signature outlets at the revitalised Peak Tower, it will also become the new flagship for m.a.x. concepts, the cutting-edge,
contemporary restaurant division of the Maxim’s group. The concept for Pearl has been imported from Melbourne and the menu of modern
Australian cuisine will be overseen by Geoff Lindsay, the co-owner and chef of Pearl in Melbourne, who received the accolade “Best Chef of the
year 2005”.
For equally stylish dining, Tien Yi Chinese Restaurant, located on Levels 2 and 3 of the Peak Tower, offers contemporary Chinese cuisine and also
boasts one of the most striking views of Hong Kong and Victoria Harbour. Designed by renowned architect Branko Pahor, the two-storey space is
linked by a dramatic, curved staircase and features a reflecting pond and a six-metre-high waterfall. The lower level serves as a comfortable guest
lounge with bar; a remarkable 3,000-bottle wine cellar is also incorporated into this space. Upstairs, several private rooms offer flexibility for events
of all sizes, while a private VIP room on a raised platform offers the grandest of settings for very special occasions.
Elegant, contemporary Japanese restaurant Kyo Hachi will also open on Level 2 of The Peak Tower, offering a diverse range of tantalising
Japanese dining experiences. In addition to the main restaurant, special features include an open teppanyaki counter and a splendid central sushi
bar. Large glass screens at the entrance convey an original yet understated Japanese aesthetic, which is carried throughout the venue. The open
design allows the spectacular views from The Peak to become part of the restaurant’s ambience, while booth seating provides a sense of intimacy.
Aimed at families, the first franchise in Greater China of the American theme restaurant, Bubba Gump, is located on Level 3 at The Peak Tower and
serves great American seafood in a lively, colourful setting. Named after the fictitious and bizarrely successful shrimp farming company set up by
Tom Hank’s character, Forrest Gump, in the movie of the same name, the restaurant will display authentic “Forrest Gump” movie memorabilia with
reproductions of scripts, storyboards, costumes, shoes, still photos and even scrawled “Gumpisms” on tabletops. The décor is down-home
Alabama-style, and visitors can have their photos taken outside, wearing plaster casts of Forrest Gump’s running shoes and sitting on his famous
bus bench from the movie.
The four signature restaurants are also complemented by an attractive selection of seven innovative casual and fast food outlets.
Gino’s Gelato, on the Ground Floor of The Peak Tower, will be
a fun, novel ice cream outlet. All its ice creams will be freshly made using seasonal fruits and natural ingredients – just like authentic Italian gelato, only with a local twist.
Ice creams will be available in popular Asian flavours such as mango and sticky rice with coconut milk. Ice creams will also be served attached to helium
balloons, so hold on tight to those cones!
Jungle Juice will serve what
it describes as the "coolest, healthiest drinks on earth" with juices freshly crushed from exotic fresh fruits, as well as
ice-cool California Smoothies, made from innovative home made recipes, and refreshing Japanese green teas.
The O Bar will specialise purely and simply in water – stocking a range of different mineral waters from all over the
world. The bar’s name is a quirky play on “eau”, the French word for water.
One of m.a.x concepts’ most successful local creations, Eating Plus, with its slogan 'Noodles Have No Boundaries', will also be introduced to P1 at
The Peak Tower. This casual, contemporary-style eatery focuses on simple but good quality Asian and western fare, with a strong accent on
noodles and pasta.
Burger King returns to Hong Kong, serving its
burgers on Level 1 of The Peak Tower. This will be the first time for several years that Burger King has been available in Hong Kong, except inside the Departures area of Hong Kong International Airport.
The Peak Tower’s new food and beverage line-up is completed with the return of a bigger and better branch of Pacific Coffee, one of Hong Kong's
most successful coffee bar chains, which comes back with even better views than before, and Suzuki, a modern Japanese-style café designed to
evoke the energy and vibrancy of Tokyo’s café culture by the Sir Hudson Hospitality Group which operates outlets such as the famous Habitu
restaurant.
Besides these exciting dining attractions, one of the key highlights of the new-look Peak Tower is the conversion of the entire rooftop of the
bowl-shaped building into a huge viewing platform, offering sensational 360-degree panoramas of Hong Kong. The rooftop will also incorporate a
Sky Gallery showcasing the work of local artists.
State-of-the-art lighting effects will illuminate The Peak Tower at night, and a “festival market” shopping arcade will feature contemporary
reinterpretations of traditional Hong Kong venues such as Ladder Street and The Ladies Market.
A year-round calendar of diverse and lively events is also planned to help make The Peak Tower a magnet for visitors, whether residents or tourists,
while a new and much expanded Madame Tussauds wax exhibition is also located at the new Peak Tower.
