Singapore Airlines
is revamping its award-winning Economy Class cabin.
Working jointly with aircraft seat manufacturer Weber Aircraft LP, the new Singapore Airlines Economy Class seat is the result of a series of
research and customer surveys. The airline’s customers were involved
in every stage, from selection of the seat type and features, to cushion
evaluation.
The sessions included an in-cabin seat selection survey where over 150 travellers, who were in transit at Singapore Changi Airport, were invited
to assess four economy class seat types. The seats were mounted in an empty aircraft parked at one of the gates at the airport.
“While we were developing the Economy Class cabin, our biggest challenge was to design a seat that offers our customers greater comfort
within the confines of the cabin,” said Mr Yap Kim Wah, Singapore Airlines’ Senior Vice President for Product and Services.
“With the clever use of cutting-edge technology and top quality materials, and the addition of thoughtful features, the new Singapore Airlines
Economy Class cabin allows us to achieve just that – a more comfortable personal space for each traveller,” added Mr Yap.
In addition, all Singapore Airlines customers will be able to indulge in the signature dishes created by the
airline’s International Culinary Panel, enjoy countless hours of entertainment on the new generation KrisWorld, Singapore Airlines’
inflight entertainment system, and experience the hallmark service by the renowned Singapore Girl.
The new Singapore Airlines Economy Class cabin will debut on the new B777-300ER (Extended Range) that is joining the fleet later this year,
and subsequently on the A380. Singapore Airlines is scheduled to take delivery of six B777-300ER aircraft by the end of this year.
