The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB)
has officially launched its 2006 Hong Kong WinterFest proramme.
HKTB Chairman Mrs Selina Chow thanked the Government and travel trade partners for their tremendous support for the Mega Event.
“This year, our four major attractions – Hong Kong Disneyland, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong, Ngong Ping 360 and Ocean Park Hong
Kong – are joining in our celebrations, which will mark a dazzling finale to 2006 Discover Hong Kong Year,” she remarked. “Together
we’ve created a diversity of romantic and spectacular activities that not only showcases Hong Kong’s vibrant appeal, but also exemplifies
the unity and spirit of our tourism industry.”
Organised by the HKTB for the fifth consecutive year, Hong Kong WinterFest will run until 1 January 2007. The focal point of the festivities
is Statue Square, which has been transformed into a picturesque Santa’s Town. As well as stunning settings themed around “love and
care”, spectators can enjoy a host of entertainment programmes, including performances by Ocean Park and Disney characters on
specified days, and world-class acts by local and international groups during Fridays, weekends and public holidays.
This year, the Mega
Event will feature the largest-ever number of international performing groups and the greatest diversity of performances by local troupes.
Local merchants have also lent their support, with some 3,400 retail outlets and restaurants offering shopping and dining privileges to
visitors. And to make the festive season even brighter, the HKTB will enhance the nightly multimedia show A Symphony of Lights with
special pyrotechnics on 23-25 and 30-31 December and 1 January.
