Acclaimed movie star and stage great, Ms Connie Chen Po Chu is to be immortalized in wax at the all-new Madame Tussauds Hong Kong scheduled to reopen in May 2006.

Ms Chen Po Chu

A captivating star since early childhood, Ms. Chen was known for her impeccable Chinese opera performances before entering the movie industry in 1956. Throughout the 1960’s she made over 200 movies and was known as the ‘fan’s princess,’ a diva equally at home on stage or screen.

In 1999, Ms. Chen came out of retirement to star in ‘A Sentimental Journey’, which still holds the record in Hong Kong for the most number of sold-out performances. Later this year, Ms. Chen, together with the renowned team that created ‘A Sentimental Journey’, will re-unite for ‘Only You’, a vibrant musical created by Emperor Stage.

During a sitting for her wax figure held at the Island Shangri-La Hotel Hong Kong on Wednesday, Ms. Chen said, “This is a very exciting moment for me to be here today. I am fascinated by the detail and effort required to ensure my wax figure will be as true to life as possible. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing the finished figure at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong.”

Conducted by an experienced team from Madame Tussauds London, the sitting is the first step in creating a wax figure. During the sitting, detailed measurements and hundreds of photos were taken which the talented Madame Tussauds sculptors will use to create a realistic wax figure. Ms. Chen’s hair, eyes and teeth were also colourmatched to ensure an incredible likeness.

Fans will be able to visit Ms. Chen’s wax figure in the World Premiere room at the all new Madame Tussauds Hong Kong. Standing alongside Hollywood stars Jodie Foster and Andy Lau, Ms Chen’s figure will be staged in a classic Chinese setting and guests will be invited to photograph themselves ‘on stage’ alongside Ms Chen.

Kelly Mak, Head of Marketing & Customer Services of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong said, “It is not often that we have the pleasure of welcoming a ‘living legend’ to Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and we are most honoured that Ms Chen has accepted our invitation to be immortalized as a wax figure. Ms. Chen has a large base of loyal fans and we are certain that they will be delighted to “meet” her at The Peak.”
