To encourage participation at the SriLankan Strokes amateur golf tournament being held this March at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club,
SriLankan Airlines has put together a variety of packages designed to accommodate the requirements of
golfers and their partners.
Basic return airfares from Dubai to Colombo starts
from Dhs 1,200 plus Dhs 540 tax rising to Dhs 2,960 plus Dhs 540 tax for business class flights, while accommodation is
available in a variety of hotels in the hill station including the Grand, St Andrews, Heritage and the Tea Factory.
Prices for a three-night package start at
Dhs 890 per person in a double/twin room, rising to Dhs 2,500 for a five-night package at the Golf Wing of the Grand Hotel or
Dhs 3,330 at the Tea Factory on single occupancy.
The price includes bed and breakfast, transfers from the international airport to Nuwara Eliya by car or coach, shuttle service to the golf course, green and caddy fees
plus refreshments on course and entry to the gala dinner and prize giving ceremony – non golfers qualify for transfers and bed and breakfast only.
In addition, for a further
Dhs 670, participants can utilise the new air taxi transfer service to and from Nuwara
Eliya.
For non-playing partners, the airline has also devised a variety of excursions during the tournament, including visits to a tea plantation, white water rafting, wild life
safari, a climb of Adam’s Peak, visits to a spice garden and batik factory, trip to Kandy and the elephant orphanage, or a three-day cultural tour finishing with shopping in
Colombo.
Prices for these excursions start at Dhs 50, rising to
Dhs 190 for the white water rafting or Dhs 680 for a three-day tour.
The package can be booked through any travel agent or the SriLankan Airlines outlets in Dubai. Tournament accommodation is valid from March 16 through to March 20
covering the practice day on March 17 and the two-day tournament on March 18/19.
SriLankan Strokes consists of one stableford round with players ranked according to handicap – from 0-9, 10-18 and 19-28 for men and from 0-15 and 16-30 for women.
Prizes are also awarded for the longest drive to the 18th hole and closest to the pin at the 17th hole.
The course at Nuwara Eliya is 5,520 metres in length and par-70, offering long narrow fairways and challenging play with fir trees, bunkers and river obstacles.
