Tiger Airways launches first flights to China

Travel News Asia Wednesday, 26 April 2006

Tiger Airways has launched its inaugural flight to the China Mainland by flying to Guangzhou on 25 April 2006. This will be followed by its first flights to Haikou and Shenzhen on 26 April and 27 April 2006, respectively.

Guangzhou’s New Baiyun Airport, which was only put in use in 2004, has seen a rapid increase in international flights since then. The south China air hub currently has 119 domestic and international routes.

“Tiger Airways is the only low fares carrier flying between China and Singapore and we expect enthusiastic demand from savvy travelers for this service. There has traditionally been a long history of strong commercial and cultural ties between Singapore and China and our affordable low fares to the three Chinese cities starting from Sin$ 61.98 (RMB318) will further strengthen this relationship with China. This builds upon the solid headway we made when we launched our Singapore-Macau route on 25 March 2006,” said Tiger Airways CEO, Tony Davis.

Singapore Tourism Board Assistant Area Director, South China, Mr Kien Nguan Tee, said, “The inaugural flights of Tiger Airways from Singapore to Guangzhou, Haikou and Shenzhen mark a major step forward in the company’s expansion of its route network to serve more cities in Southern China. This development in air transport connecting the two countries provides more choice for Chinese travelers going to Singapore for business and leisure. It will also contribute to the tourism development of Singapore.”
