Travel News Asia 26 January 2006

Marriott International has realigned its Asia Pacific regional leadership. Effective immediately:

Stan Brown has been named area vice president for China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Korea. He replaces Tuni Kyi who has assumed the position of market vice president and general manager of the Doral Golf Resort & Spa, a Marriott Resort, in South Florida, US. Mr. Brown was formerly area vice president for Hawaii, Guam and Japan, based in Honolulu. Mr. Brown will be based in Hong Kong.

Ed Hubennette, formerly vice president for Asia and South Pacific with responsibility for Thailand, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Pakistan and Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, has been named vice president for Japan and the Pacific. He will undertake Mr. Brown’s former responsibilities while retaining operational responsibility for Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. He will be based in Hawaii.

Craig Smith, general manager of the JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, has been promoted to area vice president and will oversee properties in Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, India and Pakistan. He will be based in Hong Kong.

All three report to Geoff Garside, executive vice president for Marriott’s Asia Pacific Region, based in Hong Kong.

“This realignment is the result of our strong global growth which continuously opens leadership opportunities,” said Ed Fuller, president and managing director of international lodging for Marriott International. “We are fortunate to have capable leaders on our team who bring a depth of operational and marketing experience and who have the flexibility and cultural sensitivity to be successful in virtually any environment. These gentlemen have distinguished themselves in their previous assignments and we are confident that they will approach their new roles with vigor and creativity.”
