Royal Plaza on Scotts to re-open in January 2007

Travel News Asia Friday, 24 November 2006

The Royal Plaza on Scotts’ multi-million total makeover will add new light to the Orchard Road belt when the hotel re-opens in January 2007.

In a bold gesture to support the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) plan to light-up the Orchard Road belt as part of a nation-wide effort to add ‘new glow’ to Singapore, Mr Patrick Fiat, General Manager of Royal Plaza on Scotts said, “Our hotel will feature a two-storey glass-clad façade fronting Scotts Road. The Royal Plaza on Scotts will unveil her inner beauty and elegance by adding this glass facade at its main entrance - the first time in 32 years”.

This decision is part of the hotel’s many initiatives to upgrade its services and overall quality. On 27 September 2006, the Café Vienna served its last dinner before closing its curtain for the total makeover. A totally transformed chic and elegant restaurant and bar, which features the two-story glass facade as part of its uniquely urban design and ambience, will be unveiled in mid January 2007. Three elegant  chandeliers within will throw a romantic glow onto busy Scotts Road. The hotel intends to explore further with the URA to tap into the Sin$40 million mall enhancement fund to further support Singapore’s plan of lighting up major areas to create a signature skyline.

Among other features of the total make-over is the hotel’s choice of new mattress from Simmons Beautyrest. More than half a million hours of consumer interviews were conducted by the hotel before the Simmons-exclusive design, “Dream Bed” was chosen as the new brand standard to redefine sleep comfort for travellers. Built with nonflip engineering, the mattress provides more comfort and reduces risk injury for the guests. About 511 new Dream Beds with all-white bedding, extra thick pillow mattress top and a plush duvet, will be installed by mid-January 2007. Topping the bed are hypoallergenic pillows made of cool, crisp 230-thread count 100% cotton filled with fiber puffs that moved independently to allow guests to mould the pillow to individual sleep preferences.

Two services which will remain after the make-over are the complimentary mini-bar service launched six years ago, and complimentary internet access in all guestrooms. The Royal Plaza on Scotts was the first upscale business hotel in Singapore to provide complimentary high speed internet access to all the guestrooms and the internet access is offered either hard-wired or wireless.

“We are confident the hotel will continue to provide the essential amenities our guests have come to expect.. Our 511 newly redesigned guestrooms will enhance our guests’ overall experience, and give them more value-add to their stay. However, the challenge has just begun. We are constantly thinking of new ways to please our guests,” added Mr. Fiat.
