Some of the finest wines and cheeses from Wellington, New
Zealand, will be served to guests visiting the Qantas Club lounge at Sydney Domestic airport tomorrow
afternoon, (Wednesday 25 October), as part of a new campaign by Qantas Holidays to promote
Gourmet Touring.
From 4-7pm, a range of wines from New Zealand’s Martinborough vineyards, in the Wairarapa Region north of Wellington, will be served to
Qantas Club guests, along with a selection of the Wellington region’s Kapiti cheeses.
The Qantas Holidays Gourmet Touring Campaign, which is running until March 2007, is aiming to highlight the possibilities of combining
gourmet food and wine with driving holiday experiences.
It is focusing on the growing number of couples and independent travellers, who are booking flights and renting cars, then setting off on their
own itineraries – a key market for Wellington, which continues to grow as a quality destination for wining and dining in the Australasian region.
“Wellington is gaining a solid reputation not only as a destination renowned for its fine restaurants and café society lifestyle, but as the gateway
to New Zealand’s Wairarapa district, which is home to the expanding Martinborough wine country,” said Chris Lamers, General Manager
Marketing for Positively Wellington Tourism.
“Through this campaign with Qantas Holidays, we are working to raise awareness of our region’s increasing appeal to gourmet
travellers,” Mr Lamers added. “The timing of this week’s promotion in the Qantas Club lounge also coincides with the upcoming launch of the new season wines
in the Wairarapa, New Zealand’s leading wine region, for both local and export varieties.”
