Starting today, travel agents throughout
Asia Pacific will have access to booking Jetstar branded airlines through the Abacus Global
Distribution System (GDS), which comprises of Jetstar Asia, Jetstar and
Valuair.
“Abacus welcomes the value-based carriers on board, as an exciting developing segment of today’s travel market,” said Mr Don Birch, President
and CEO for Abacus International. “As Asia’s air industry continues to evolve, Abacus has been working closely with airlines to maximise regional
distribution and help the entire travel chain to make the most of Asia
Pacific’s travel growth.”
Ms Chong Phit Lian, CEO of Jetstar Asia and Valuair welcomed the partnership. “Abacus has shown they have the experience and knowledge of
the markets in Asia Pacific to assist us in extending our reach as well as creating increased demand.”
“With fuel prices on the rise again, airlines need to look at ways to do business smarter and making our seat inventory accessible through a GDS
will translate to more passengers on seats and increased revenue for our airline. The Jetstar branded airlines understand the value in having a mix
of distribution channels,” she added.
Jetstar Manager of International Sales, Matthew MacMillan, said the Australian based Jetstar would launch innovative long haul value based flights
in November from Australia to South East Asia, the South Pacific and Japan with wide bodied aircraft, initially the Airbus A330-200 before
transitioning to a fleet of Boeing 787s from late 2008.
“Abacus provides the necessary reach to ensure we can successfully market our fares throughout the region,” Mr MacMillan said.
“Travel will also be made much easier for our passengers with ticketless bookings, as all they need to do is show their passenger itinerary as a
receipt of proof of purchase at check in time along with their valid passport or other travel
documents.”
Jetstar Asia and Jetstar join six other low cost carriers on the Abacus system, including Valuair, Bangkok Airways, Adam Air, Cebu Pacific, Lion Air
and PT Batavia. Private airlines, Hong Kong Express and CR Airways also distribute to Abacus’ 11,000 travel agency locations throughout Abacus’
24 markets.
