Hong Kong Disneyland apologises for 'Sold Out Days' during Chinese New Year period

Travel News Asia 2 February 2006

High attendance, especially from Mainland China guests, was expected at Hong Kong Disneyland throughout this Chinese New Year period, but unfortunately the magical destination sold out on many of these days, leaving many guests disappointed.

When the park sells out, Disneyland makes the announcement, generally the same day, through pre-established communications channels, including radio announcements, public messaging boards on the transportation network, on the MTR Tung Chung line, at the Hong Kong Disneyland Ticket Express at Hong Kong Station and its own website. As the announcements tend to be made the same day, it can be very inconvenient for local residents, but especially those who have travelled from overseas.

This is an extract of one such announcement: "Hong Kong Disneyland announces that the park is full today and tickets for visits to Hong Kong Disneyland today have been sold out. The park is no longer selling tickets for entrance into the park today. In order to preserve the Guest experience, the park cannot permit further entries. Guests holding a ticket may visit on another day."

Bill Ernest, executive vice president and managing director Hong Kong Disneyland commented on the situation, “We sincerely appreciate that so many families across Asia Pacific and China have chosen Hong Kong Disneyland as their Chinese New Year family destination and thank them for their support. We have experienced high guest demand during this peak season and have sold out on some days. We are very sorry some of our guests have not been able to visit Hong Kong Disneyland over the past few days, and fully understand their disappointment. But, to ensure guest safety and preserve the unique guest experience, we have had to limit guest entry at certain times.”

Hong Kong Disneyland said it has taken a number of steps to better accommodate guests. Park opening hours have been extended and internet bookings have been temporarily suspended.

In addition, the Park’s new ticketing option provides greater flexibility and allows guests to return to the Park on another day within six months from the date of purchase.
