Travel News Asia Wednesday, 20 September 2006

Japan Airlines (JAL) and Korean Air (KAL) have agreed to expand their codeshare agreement from October 29, 2006 by adding extra flights to existing codeshare routes and by starting new twice-daily codeshare flights on the Tokyo-Busan and Osaka (Kansai)-Busan routes.

Overall, from late October the JAL - Korean Air codeshare program between the two countries will increase by 40% from the present 133 flights per week over 9 routes to 186 flights a week over 11 routes.

Under the expanded agreement the number of daily code share flights between Tokyo (Narita), Osaka (Kansai) and Nagoya (Chubu) and Seoul (Incheon) increases to seven, five and three respectively. Frequency on the Fukuoka-Seoul route will increase from a daily service to 11 flights a week by the addition of four new weekly flights.

The Korean Air-JAL codeshare program started in August 2004, with flights between Seoul and the regional Japanese cities of Komatsu, Niigata and Sapporo.
