Hong Kong’s funny girl Miriam Yeung made
“herself” laugh last week at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong, as she became the latest
celebrity to join the star-studded ranks at the attraction – complete with the world’s first
giggling wax figure!
During an unveiling event at the world-famous home of the famous, guests were
surprised to hear a familiar giggle escape from closed stage curtains in the themed area,
Hong Kong Glamour. The curtains then opened to reveal Miriam Yeung, who was
whispering a sassy joke to her incredible wax likeness who giggled in response.
Featured in her last concert, Miriam’s wax figure is dressed in a traditional Chinese
outfit, inspired by the classic novel “Legendary Fighter – Yang’s Heroine” which she
wore in one of her concerts. Miriam selected the style of costume because she believes
it symbolises Asian feminism, of which the young, headstrong star is an advocate.
Miriam hopes that her wax figure will convey the message that the modern
woman should not be held down by social expectations, and that she should be assertive in
achieving what she wants in life - and of course enjoy a laugh whenever and however
she wishes.
Miriam enthused, “It is a great honor to be part of the Madame Tussauds Hong Kong
tradition, and to present the first-ever giggling wax figure. For fans who like to tell jokes,
my wax figure will be their best audience yet. I’ll be looking forward to any funny
anecdotes!”
The effervescent Miriam Yeung was nominated for Best Actress at the Golden Horse
Awards in 2005. An avid philanthropist, she is active in charity events throughout Hong
Kong and is often seen supporting UNICEF charity activities. Miriam was awarded as
one of the “Ten Outstanding Young Persons” in Hong Kong for the year 2005.
Originally opened in August 2000, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong is the first permanent
Madame Tussauds in Asia and is one of six Madame Tussauds that are located in
London, New York, Las Vegas, Amsterdam and Shanghai.
