Competition for the ‘Concierge of the Year 2006’ individual and team titles has become more intense as the search for the best in Dubai moves
into its final phase.
Teams, of three members each from 35 five-star hotels, took part in the heats of a knowledgeable quiz at the Nad Al Sheba Club from which three
teams were chosen. The finalists were Mina A’ Salaam, Hilton Jumeirah Beach and The Fairmont Dubai.
Questions focussing on the UAE ranged from “How far is Ras Al Khaimah from Dubai?” to “When was oil discovered in Abu Dhabi?” and “How
many public parks does Dubai have?”
The quick pace of answering, decided with the help of a buzzer, left the audience, made up of supporters from the respective hotels, cheering
contestants along.
“All participants have been graded on their knowledge of Dubai and customer service skills following the mystery shopper exercise conducted
over the last two and a half months,” said Victoria Smith, Group Marketing Director, Wafi City. “Quiz scores will be added to the teams’ points
from the mystery shopper round, which will determine the winner of the Best Team title.
“Meanwhile, personal interviews with the top five concierges will help us decide the winner of the individual title.”
The contest, pioneered by Wafi City, one of Dubai’s leading shopping and leisure destinations, and jointly organised with the Department of
Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), is supported by Concierge magazine and sponsored by Castaway Cards, Big Bus Company and
Strellson at Wafi Mall.
Other categories being evaluated include, Most Friendly Concierge, Best Customer Care, Best Knowledge of Attractions & Events, Best
Knowledge of Culture and Heritage and Best Knowledge of Shopping in
Dubai.
Winners will be announced at a Gala Dinner on October 31st, to be held at the Sphinx restaurant at Wafi City.
