Hong Kong Airport opens Pre-Check-In Duty Free Counter

Travel News Asia Thursday, 17 August 2006

Travellers departing Hong Kong's airport can now buy duty free perfumes, cosmetics, and other liquid items before they check in, providing greater convenience in line with the latest travel security measures.

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) and Nuance-Watson Hong Kong have opened a new Temptation Duty Free Perfumes & Cosmetics counter at the landside of the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), allowing travelers to buy duty free perfumes and cosmetics and pack them into luggage prior checking in. The new counter is located on Level Seven, within the non-restricted area of the terminal building.

Such initiative is designed to allow passengers to comply more easily with travel security measures instituted by the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department, which prohibit passengers flying to U.S. destinations from taking any form of liquid on board aircraft, including fragrances, cosmetic creams and suntan lotion.

“Hong Kong is known for great shopping, and we want to make sure travelers can enjoy this important part of the Hong Kong experience in both a convenient and practical way. We believe that a bottle of fine perfume or a packaged gift set from Hong Kong International Airport is an essential part of a journey, and we want to keep it that way,” said Mr. Hans Bakker, Commercial Director, Airport Authority Hong Kong.
