CommunicAsia2006 Summit
High profile top-level executives speaking at the CommunicAsia2006 Summit – the conference arm of the four-day show, will
aim to stimulate thought leadership and set industry directions through insightful discussions.
The focus turns towards mobile applications, broadband and next generation networks as the industry’s three key growth areas. Issues speakers
will tackle topics such as growing the next billion mobile subscribers, growing revenue in mature markets, broadband access, revenue models and
service innovation, building the NGN and IMS, service provider build-out experiences, interesting services applications offered by IP multimedia, the
future and growth of IMS & NGN, and their regulatory implications
and converged networks. Strategic partners Ovum and the IMS Forum pull their weight behind this year’s event along with the brains behind leading specialist newsletters Global Mobile and 3G Mobile.
Some of the speakers
expected at the Summit under mobile communications include Andrew Sukawaty, CEO and Chairman of Inmarsat
speaking on the 3G boost provided by satellite communications; Joseph Anton Aliagas, CEO of Arena Mobile Music on ringing in the hip-hop
eramobile music; as well as Skuli Mogensen, CEO & Founder of OZ, Craig Farrill, CEO of Kodiak Networks and Simon Bureau, CEO of Vectis
Corporation.Tom Freed, Area Vice President for RealNetworks.
In the area of broadband, Tuvia Barlev, President, CEO and Co-Founder of Actelis Network will speak on new developments in the race for more
bandwidth for triple play applications; Craig Wilson, IBM’s Asia Pacific Director for Digital Media and Telecommunications, who will talk about how
convergence is reshaping the telecommunications landscape; other speakers include Andrew Wajs, CTO of Irdeto and Eric Li, Regional Sales
Director of Microsoft TV, Brian Baker, President and CEO of Widevine Technologiesas well as a senior executive from The Walt Disney Company.
Key speakers in the areas of NGN include David G Belanger, AT&T Labs Chief Scientist and Eli Katz, CEO of Xconnect. Andrew Bond-Webster, VP
Enterprise Markets Japan & Asia at Cable & Wireless; Stephen Falk, Vice President Global Standards at Sprint and Thorsten Heinz, Siemens
CTO.
Also raising the bar is the Summit’s successful Keynote plenary, CEO Perspectives. Moderated by McKinsey & Company partners, it will feature
CxOs from the telecom world’s most forward-looking companies. This year, the forum will focus on wireless technologies, broadband applications,
and the telecom network of the future.
The focus on wireless will discuss if Mobile Telecom is becoming ‘another boring industry’ focused on international consolidation or will it if it will
benefit from another cycle of growth? While the growth of the number of subscribers is still healthy in many Asian countries, penetration starts
reaching very high levels in many segments and more and more geographies. Simultaneously, gaming, video clips, value added services and audio
seem struggling to compensate for the decrease of price per minute of voice.
Two paths of evolution of Broadband can currently be observed in Asia – very high speed (or high definition) video over copper or fibre, or
relatively lower speed applications on 3G, HSDPA or WiMax. CEO perspectives on broadband will give views on whether consumers will pay for
very high bandwidth, will whether 0.5-1 Mbps will be sufficient for most applications, as well as where the broadband world is
heading?
Several new technologies (WiMax, Skype, HSDPA) are shaking the telecom world and may convert the copper asset into an irrelevant barrier to
entry or turn voice into a cheap feature of access. In the session on the telecom network of the future, CEOs will discuss if the technologies are
hype or a reality, an opportunity or threat, as well as the consequences for investments into networks supporting these technologies.
