Tiger Airways pleased with Singapore's new Budget Terminal

Travel News Asia 14 February 2006

Tiger Airways has said that it is so confident of the efficiency and simplicity of the new Budget Terminal design at Changi Airport that it intends to allow passengers to check in up to 30 minutes before departure time, rather than the current 45 minutes.

“With the simple design of the new terminal, Tiger Airways passengers have a shorter distance to walk from the check-in counter to the aircraft boarding gate. This allows us to reduce the check-in deadline from the current 45 minutes to just 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure time,” said Tiger Airways CEO, Tony Davis. “However, we still encourage passengers to check-in two hours before departure time and have time to enjoy the facilities at the new Budget Terminal.”

Check-in counters open 2 hours prior to scheduled departure time and will close promptly at 30 minutes prior to departure time. Latecomers will not be accommodated when the counter closes.

“Tiger Airways is committed to providing a fast and efficient service with its business model of point-to-point journeys and ticket-less travel. Tiger Airways services at the new Budget Terminal facilitates a quicker and simpler check-in process, benefiting our passengers with a faster, more efficient service,” said Davis.

“The new Budget Terminal with specially tailored facilities will enable Tiger Airways to achieve greater operational efficiency, allowing us to reduce costs significantly so as to be able to offer more low fares as well as other benefits such as a shorter minimum check-in time to our passengers,” added Davis.

Tiger Airways flights will take-off from the new Budget Terminal on 26 March 2006.

The Budget Terminal is expected to give a major boost to Singapore’s regional aviation hub status. The new terminal offers free internet access and local phone calls as well as automated teller machines, money changers, televisions and food and beverage outlets. The compact terminal has one check-in hall, a transit lounge, 18 check-in counters, seven departure gates, 10 aircraft parking bays and three baggage claim belts.
