BAA’s UK airports recorded a total of 12.8 million passengers in
October 2006, an increase of 1.6% over the same month last year.
Of the major markets, European scheduled traffic was up by 6.2% and other long haul traffic grew 7.1%. European Charter fell 12.4% and
North Atlantic traffic dipped 3.3%. Domestic and Irish Republic traffic was down 1.2% and 3.1% respectively.
Of the individual airports, Stansted grew 8.1%. Gatwick was up 2.1% and Southampton 1.9%. Heathrow fell 1.4%. In Scotland, each airport
reported gains with Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh growing 14%, 1.5% and 2% respectively.
The total number of air transport movements at BAA airports rose by 2.6%, while cargo tonnage was down 11.3%.
