Starwood Hotels & Resorts
and the Kingkey Group have signed an agreement whereby Starwood will manage the Sheraton Dameisha Resort in Shenzhen, China.
When it opens in early 2008, the newly built Sheraton Dameisha Resort will be Starwood’s third hotel in Shenzhen. The group currently operates the Four Points by
Sheraton Shenzhen, the first Four Points by Sheraton in China and has another Sheraton under development in Shenzhen,
the Sheraton Shenzhen Hotel. Both hotels are located in Futien district, reputed to be the new Central Business District of Shenzhen.
Sheraton Dameisha Resort will feature 402 rooms, over 16,000 square feet of meeting space, 3 food and beverage outlets, a health club and spa, an indoor swimming
pool and retail shops. The resort will be located at Dameisha Beach in eastern Shenzhen, approximately 24 kilometers from downtown Shenzhen. Dameisha is a beach
resort area popular among the local residents of Shenzhen as well as domestic visitors from other parts of China.
“We are honored to partner with Kingkey Group to establish the Sheraton Dameisha Resort in Shenzhen which will be a significant addition to the Sheraton brand.
Shenzhen, the southern gateway to mainland China, has always been known more for its export and industrial base than as a leisure destination. We believe that with
the opening of this fabulous resort, visitors will have another great leisure destination in southern China,” commented Miguel Ko, President of Starwood Hotels &
Resorts, Asia Pacific.
Dameisha Beach is a popular beach resort destination that caters primarily to the local Shenzhen population, tourists from other parts of Guangdong Province and
Hong Kong. Dameisha is also known as one of the top 10 scenic destinations in Shenzhen. Shenzhen is situated in the southern coastal area of Guangdong province,
160 kilometers away from Guangzhou and 35 kilometers from Hong Kong.
Shenzhen, as one of the first special economic zones in China, attracts visitors with its
unique theme parks (such as Splendid China, China Folk Cultural Villages, Window of the World and Happy Valley, each with its own unique features) and varied
carnivals and activities. In 2003 alone, more than half the international travelers to mainland China entered or departed through Shenzhen. Besides its appeal as a leisure
destination, Shenzhen is also a major industrial and export base for China. As China’s key international trading port, it is accessible by ocean freighters and houses
eight commercial port areas.
