Travel Agents at 2007 IDE-Asia to Experience Korea and Beyond

Travel News Asia Tuesday, 12 September 2006

Travel agents interested in learning more about a region of the world that is forecast to see an increase in international arrivals of up to eight percent in the next two years should plan to attend the American Society of Travel Agents’ (ASTA) International Destination Expo-Asia in Jeju, Republic of Korea, March 25-29, 2007. ASTA members who register before 30 September 2006, are eligible for the early bird rate of US$209; non-members pay only US$250 through 30 September 2006.

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) will also be a key participant in IDE-Asia, with a pavilion on the trade show floor. Thanks to their support, IDE-Asia will spotlight the entire Asia Pacific region throughout its destination training, open-floor trade shows, one-on-one business meetings, product seminars, networking events and pre-and post-tours.

As at ASTA’s 2006 IDE in Europe, travel agents who attend can expect to earn numerous destination certifications in addition to that of Republic of Korea Specialist (in Prague, more than 1,100 destination specialist certifications were awarded to attendees). Among the emerging destinations featured at IDE-Asia will be Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Northern Thailand and Vietnam. Agents will learn about the niche markets these destinations have to offer, as well as their attractions, architecture, and history.

Jeju and the surrounding areas will offer several tours, including the Romantic East tour of the Jeju Folk Village and Shinyoung Film Museum. Agents who take advantage of pre and post-tours will travel to Korea, China, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam and Cambodia.
