Finnair scheduled traffic increased by 21.8%
in August 2006 compared to the same month last year. Asian traffic grew by
40%, while the passenger load factor was 75.1%, up 3.7 percentage points.
The number of passengers carried was 646,100, up 7.7%.
Finnair's Tallinn-based subsidiary Aero AS, carried 59,500 passengers (+ 0.1%) on routes between Helsinki and the Baltic capitals and
within Southern Finland. During August, Stockholm-based FlyNordic carried 99,900 passengers (- 4.2%). Aero and FlyNordic figures are
included in Finnair Group total figures.
Finnair traffic, measured in passenger kilometers, increased by 13.8% in August, while the capacity was up by 10.6%, resulting in a
passenger load factor of 76.6% or 2.2 points higher than last year. All Finnair Group airlines
together transported 753,500 passengers, which is 4.2% more than a year ago.
Departure punctuality of scheduled flights was
85% (based on a fifteen minute standard), 5.6 points lower than in August 2005. Including
leisure flights departure punctuality was 83.7% (-5.6 p.p). Arrival punctuality of scheduled flights was 88.4% and that of all operations was
87%.
Scheduled traffic
In scheduled traffic (international + domestic) revenue passenger kilometres increased by 21.8%. The change in capacity was + 15.8%.
Passenger load factor was 75.1%, 3.7 percentage points higher than last year.
In scheduled international traffic,
the total number of passengers was up by 11.8%. Capacity in ASKs was +18.6%, while RPKs increased by
23.7%.
In European scheduled traffic, ASKs increased by 2.2%, and as RPKs increased by 12.7%, the passenger load factor was 70.1%, up 6.5
points from previous year.
In North Atlantic scheduled traffic, capacity decreased by
5%. Change in RPKs was +0.8%, and passenger load factor for August was 91.6%, 5.3 points higher than previous year.
In Asian scheduled traffic, capacity increase was 44.9%. The passenger traffic was up by
40%. The passenger load factor was 79.6%, 2.8 percentage points down.
Domestic scheduled traffic decreased by 6.6% on a capacity decrease of 13.6%.
The passenger load factor increased by 4.3 percentage points to 58.1%.
ASKs for leisure traffic decreased in August by 9.6%, and RPKs decreased by 11.7%, resulting in a passenger load factor of 84.2%,
2 points lower than last year.
Cargo
Cargo traffic increased by 13.5% in terms of cargo tonnes carried. Growth in scheduled traffic was +14.2%. Increase in Asian traffic was
+33.7%. Volume in European traffic decreased by 13.1%. In North-Atlantic traffic cargo volume increased by 3.8%. Cargo traffic carried on
chartered cargo flights increased by 7.1%. The cargo load factor was 62.3%. The cargo load factor in the Far Eastern traffic was 70.5%
and in the North Atlantic traffic 77.1%.
