US bans all Liquids and Gels on Flights

Travel News Asia Thursday, 10 August 2006

Following the heightened security at all the airports in the UK the US Department of Homeland Security has said that it is temporarily banning all liquids and gels from being carried on all commercial flights.

The newly banned liquids include items such as gels, beverages (even water), Duty Free, lotions, perfumes etc. These and other liquids are now no longer permitted to be carried on all commercial flights departing the US.

Excluded from the measures are baby formula or juice if a baby or small child is travelling, prescription medicine with a name that matches the name on the passengers ticket and insulin and other non-prescription medicines.

While initially this restriction was for all commercial flights departing the US, Qantas has already confirmed that it will be enforcing this rule for all flights in to the US.

Passengers are strongly advised to contact their airline for the latest developments.
