Ngong Ping 360 held its official opening ceremony
on Thursday at Ngong Ping Village.
Hong Kong’s newest tourism attraction was officially opened by the Financial Secretary Mr Henry Tang, Chairman of MTR Corporation Dr
Raymond Ch’ien and Chairman of Skyrail-ITM Dr Ken Chapman with a sensational east-meets-west dance and drum performance.
The event was attended by several hundred
VIP's and tourism industry leaders.
Ngong Ping 360 was hailed as a landmark tourism attraction for Hong Kong which would become one of Hong Kong’s leading icons,
allowing visitors to discover an entirely new dimension to the destination.
“The opening of Ngong Ping 360 brings another brand new tourist attraction to Hong Kong, and further enriches the diversity of our tourism
products.” said Mr Henry Tang.
“This new attraction combines nicely with other attractions in Ngong Ping, such as the Big Buddha, the Po Lin Monastery and the Wisdom Path.
It also gives our visitors a convenient access to explore the other intriguing parts of
Lantau.”
MTR Corporation Chairman Dr Raymond Ch'ien noted that Ngong Ping 360 had been conceived as a long term project to benefit Hong Kong
and help position the city as Asia's premier tourist destination.
“The idea is now a reality and the popularity that Ngong Ping 360 has seen validates the idea. I expect Ngong Ping 360 to become, in time, one
of Hong Kong's most popular leisure experiences,” he said.
Ngong Ping 360 operator Skyrail-ITM noted an overwhelmingly strong response to the attraction, with more than 280,000 visitors in its first few
weeks of opening.
“All of us at Skyrail-ITM are very proud of this stunning new tourism experience which not only ranks as one of Hong Kong’s landmark
attractions, but which truly ranks among the most spectacular cable car journeys of the world,” said Skyrail-ITM Chairman Dr Ken Chapman. “I
am sure that the people of Hong Kong will be as proud of it as we are.”
