The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission
(ACCC) has approved the continuation of the joint service agreement (JSA) between British Airways and Qantas
for a further five years.
Roger Maynard, British Airways’ director of investments and alliances,
said, “The JSA on the kangaroo routes has been in place for 10 years and we have always said it
is pro-consumer and pro-choice. We are delighted, but not surprised, at the outcome.”
The decision comes after an exhaustive 21 month investigation by the ACCC, which culminated in a final hearing in December last year at which Virgin Atlantic claimed
the JSA was anti-competitive.
