The
Langham Place Hotel in Hong Kong has won "Best Practice in Technology Deployment" of the Best Practice Awards 2005. This award recognises the hotel's effective
deployment of technology in enhancing guest service and attests the hotel's position as
one of the most technologically advanced hotels in Asia Pacific.
"Service excellence is the philosophy behind our technology offerings. Our vision is to provide guests with a first class hotel experience integrating the very latest in
service technology. We wish to satisfy the growing expectations and needs of our guests," said Brett Butcher, Managing Director of Langham Place Hotel.
With the vision to provide
guests the ultimate in convenience and speed, the hotel strives to provide at least the same, or where possible,
a greater degree of connectivity and level of convenience and speed that today's business travelers have in their office. A Wi-Fi bubble is featured to enable wireless broadband connection
as well as voice and data transmission in every corner of the hotel, including the elevators.
In addition to the Wi-Fi bubble, the Langham Place Hotel is
one of the first hotels in the world to deploy Cisco's 7970 colour internet Protocol (IP) phone in every guest room.
These state-of-the-art phones offer streaming radio from around the world, stock quotes, currency conversion, dictionaries, weather, news, and other useful information,
including airline information, maps, and local places of interest. One of the most popular features is
the SMS service whereby guests can keep in touch with family and colleagues free of charge.
The seamless and unified voice and data network in the hotel provides advantages not only to guests but also to the hotel's operation. It forms a powerful, cost-effective
communications platform for advanced management services, the front desk and back office systems, thereby reducing communications costs, enhancing productivity
and increasing service efficiency.
Other in-room technology highlights include: a wall mounted 42" plasma TV screen, a DVD player, Surround Sound JBL speakers, and a personal safe sufficiently sized
to safely store a notebook PC or a video camera, while allowing charging.
