SilkAir
has partnered with the United Nations Association of Singapore
(UNAS)
to collect funds on board its flights, to help assist in the immediate relief, and the
subsequent recovery of the countries affected by the recent Tsunami disaster.
The funds collected will be channeled to assist the United Nations and its Agencies in their relief
efforts.
The collections on board
Silk Air's flights began 4 January 2005.
"In the last few days, we have seen many organizations in Singapore and around the world providing humanitarian assistance to the victims of this calamity. It is difficult
to describe the feelings in our hearts when we see the scenes of this tragedy," said Mr Mike Barclay, Chief Executive,
SilkAir.
"The survivors are struggling to rebuild their lives, with the predicament that they are now in and their tragedy has stirred the feeling of compassion in many of us. The
donation drive, on board SilkAir flights with the partnership of the United Nations Association of Singapore, will enable us to assist the many people out there, who need
help. Our part in helping is small but every little bit can make a difference in rebuilding the lives of our neighbours," he added.
