From March 1, Japan Airlines (JAL) customers in Japan will be able to take connection flights on American Airlines (AA) using JAL international e-tickets. This includes
code-share flights with AA to 71 destinations in North America.
Up till now the departure date, flight number and other data were printed out on paper tickets. By inputting such data in JALs computer system, customers need only to
show their e-ticket, sent by e-mail (PDF) or FAX, at the airport check-in counter and receive their boarding pass. There is no need to receive a paper ticket in advance. As
the customers copy of an e-ticket can be reissued easily and free of charge, reservations and the purchase of an e-ticket can be made via JALs Website by 14:00 the
day before the flight. E-tickets can also be purchased at an IATA travel agent.
The International Air Transport
Association (IATA) aims for all carriers worldwide to use e-tickets by 2007.
JAL
will expand the use of e-tickets on British Airways (BA), including code share flights,
later this year. JAL also has plans to actively expand its alliance of e-tickets with other airlines.
