In August 2005, Singapore welcomed 810,423 visitors, registering a 8.6% growth over the same period a year ago. Visitor
days was estimated to reach 2,796,322, an increase of 10.5% in comparison to August 2004.
Indonesia (135,000), P R China (101,000), Japan (61,000), Australia (48,000) and Malaysia (46,000) were Singapores top five visitor-generating markets in August 2005.
These markets accounted for about 48% of the total visitor arrivals for the month.
The strong performance in August 2005 was driven by double digit growths in arrivals of more than 20% from the Philippines (+53%), Vietnam (+39%), India (+25%) and
Hong Kong SAR (+25%).
In August 2005, Singapore hotels recorded S$99 million in room revenue, an increase of 17.3% over August 2004.
The Average Room Rate (ARR) in August 2005 was estimated at S$132, an increase of 10.8% over August 2004. The Average Occupancy Rate (AOR) for hotels was
estimated to have reached 84%, posting a 3 percentage points increase over August 2004.
