India's budget airline, Air-India Express, took to the skies Friday, when the inaugural flight
took off from Thiruvananthapuram on route to Abu Dhabi.
Air-India Express with a fleet of three Boeing 737-800s aircraft, will operate 40 services a week from five points in India –
Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode, Delhi and Mumbai to four destinations in the
Middle East – Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat and Al Ain. The aircraft in single class configuration (all Economy) will
have 181 seats.
Air-India Express has for its aircraft selected a contemporary design with the tail reflecting various Indian cultural motifs. The red sash with golden streaks on the
fuselage of the aircraft represents a vibrant India and its flow communicates smoothness. The sash merges gracefully
with the colours and visuals on the tail of the aircraft, giving it the appearance of a large seamless design. The tail of the first aircraft depicts the caparisoned elephant
from Kerala on one side and a resplendent camel from the Pushkar Mela of Rajasthan on the other; the second aircraft has a beautiful kite and a colourful rangoli on
either side of the aircraft tail. The third aircraft has Indian music as a theme with the tail sporting a tabla on one side and a sitar on the other.
