Professional musicians, classical music lovers and people with a passion for watching prize-winning performances will descend on the city famous for its history and
scenery for the 5th Al Ain Classical Music Festival.
The two-day event, which is being held from March 2 to 4, includes an opening night performance staged according to long-term tradition at the ballroom of the
InterContinental Resort Al Ain, a recital from the world renowned Jean Sibelius Ensemble from Finland, and a matinee concert on the final day for children to enjoy.
“As the cultural capital of the country, we are pleased to announce that each year this classical music festival has managed to attract consistently larger crowds. For the
first time ever this even is now going to be hosted over a two-day period, which demonstrates just how popular it has become with music lovers from the UAE and
around the region,” said Sean Morris, general manager, InterContinental Resort Al
Ain.
Organized by the Abu Dhabi Concert Committee in association with the Ministry of Information and Culture, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Department of Antiquities and
Tourism Al Ain, Embassy of Finland, Emirates Natural History Group Al Ain and the InterContinental Resort Al Ain, the highlight of the event – which is sponsored by
Nokia – will be a performance from Finland’s Jean Sibelius Ensemble. Formed in 1980, the ensemble made its international breakthrough at the West Berlin Music
Festival in 1983 and has since become one of the most in-demand Nordic chamber groups on the international scene. Having received many prestigious awards for its
performances in Europe, Asia and the U.S., the Jean Sibelius Ensemble is looking forward to playing in the Middle East.
With many of the performers and guests choosing to stay at the InterContinental Resort Al Ain – which has 200 spacious guest rooms and suites, in addition to 22
ultra-modern villas ranging from one bedroom villas that can be connected to two-bedroom luxury detached villas to accommodated larger families – Morris
said, “The festival, which includes a series of concerts and rehearsals performed both on stage and out in the open, encourages interaction between performers and the public. In
addition to the amazing music, people enjoy attending the festival to relax in an idyllic setting that offers rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty.”
