Melbourne, Australia has secured another international scientific congress for its new Convention Centre. The International Botanical Congress (IBC) will bring 4,000
scientists to Melbourne in July 2011 to discuss new research in the plant sciences. The decision to hold the event in Melbourne was announced today at the IBC’s 2005
Congress in Vienna.
“Our Victoria Government’s commitment to the new 5,000-seat Convention Centre to be built by the end of 2008 was a vital factor in the decision to award this event to
Melbourne,” said Garry Kingshott, CEO, Melbourne Convention + Visitors Bureau
(MCVB).
“The IBC is the perfect example of the type of business event that Melbourne can win, now that we are in a position to bid for events of up to 5,000 delegates.
“Delegates will stay in Melbourne hotels for a total of 21,200 room nights and will fill many of our major hotels.”
The IBC is held only once every six years. It brings together scientists from many countries and many disciplines within the broad research field of plant science. The
benefits to Australian and Victorian scientists are immense in terms of information exchange, networking and future scientific development.
The IBC will be held from 17
- 23 July, 2011.
