Finnair's Asian network, already accounting for a quarter of
the airline's scheduled flight revenue, is about to be boosted even further. Finnair launches non-stop flights between
Helsinki and Hong Kong on Tuesday May 31, continuing the service through the summer. At the same time, flights to Singapore via Bangkok are being stepped up from
three times a week to a daily frequency.
Demand for flights to Bangkok and Singapore is especially strong in June and July, and in both directions. Meanwhile, non-stop flights to Hong Kong, without the
previous stop at Bangkok, means that flying time is slashed by four hours. Connections from Hong Kong's modern airport are excellent to other cities in mainland China
and throughout South East Asia.
Connections are also good from Singapore to other destinations in Asia and Australia. For passengers travelling from Asia, superb and connections are available
throughout Finnair's European destinations network, recently widened by the addition of Venice.
Finnair's wide-body Boeing MD-11 aircraft serve both Hong Kong and Singapore, with non-stop departures to Hong Kong until 2 September on Tuesdays, Fridays and
Sundays, returning on the following day in each case. Daily Singapore departures continue until the end of August.
The Far East will be served even more extensively by Finnair as of 4 September, when the Chinese city of Guangzhou will be added to the scheduled network. The new
route represents a logical development of Finnair's Far East strategy, and brings to four the number of destinations in China served by Finnair, with Beijing, Hong Kong
and Shanghai.
Guangzhou's new airport, opened in 2004, is the first in China to have a dedicated transit terminal area and has good connections throughout mainland China, as well as
to Hong Kong and Macau.
Flights to Guangzhou will depart from Helsinki on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, returning on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, with a flight time of about ten
hours.
