Singapore Airlines is teaming up with the Sri Lanka Tourist Board and several hotels in Sri Lanka to sponsor a week-long familiarisation trip, from 24 to 30 April 2005, for
10 journalists to Sri Lanka as part of a major media effort to publicise the numerous attractions in the island and revitalise tourist arrivals to the island.
The journalists are from Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan.
"Singapore Airlines has always been a supporter of tourism in Sri Lanka, and now more than ever, it is very important for us to lend our support to the tourism recovery
efforts in Sri Lanka," said Singapore Airlines' Executive Vice-President, Marketing and the Regions, Mr Huang Cheng Eng, "The main tourist belt in Sri Lanka was not
affected at all by the devastating tsunamis and together with the Sri Lankan authorities and partners, we need to promote this awareness to visitors worldwide."
Singapore Airlines and its partners have also been actively leading group visits for travel agents from key markets and journalists from leading consumer and trade
publications to Sri Lanka. These trips are intended to showcase the varied attractions and the beauty of the island and enable the visitors to experience first hand, the
sights that include the seven world heritage sites, ancient cities, tea estates and spice gardens.
"In order to restore confidence in our country, we are asking opinion leaders to come, see and experience the great diversity and beauty of Sri Lanka which has a
cultural heritage of over 2,500 years. We want to fly people from all over the world, let them see for themselves that Sri Lanka is open for business in a big way and
Singapore Airlines has contributed to the recovery programme in a significant way," commented Mr Udaya Nanayakkara, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourist Board.
