Leading travel agents from across India were guests of Qatar Airways during a
recent familiarisation trip to Qatar as part of a tour that later took them to one of
the airline's best-selling destinations in Europe.
The visit to the
Qatar and Italy was organised by Qatar Airways and one of India’s oldest tour operators Cox & Kings.
The group of 27 agents, from Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore, were given a glimpse of Qatar’s tourist attractions, which included a desert safari to the sand
dunes and inland sea, south of the capital, Doha.
Specially chosen because of their top-selling performance with Cox & Kings, the agents were also given presentations on the services of Qatar Airways
by the airline’s business development manager Greg Epps, and Lyndon Mendonca, controller of the national carrier’s inbound division, Discover Qatar.
Qatar Tourism Authority also gave a presentation on the future of the country’s burgeoning tourism industry during a seminar held at the Ramada Hotel.
“India is one of Qatar Airways’ key markets, both for inbound and outbound business,” said Epps.
“We have been busy expanding our operations across India over the past few months with the opening of new destinations and additional flights to give customers a
wider choice of travel options.
“India is enjoying an economic boom and Qatar Airways is pleased to be able to share in this tremendous growth by working closely with our travel trade partners
across India to facilitate the surge in outbound travel.”
Qatar Airways currently operates 30 scheduled flights a week between Doha and five cities across India – Delhi, Mumbai, Cochin, Trivandrum and Hyderabad. During the
summer, the airline significantly increased capacity to India with 11 additional weekly flights, which included the newly introduced destination of the capital Delhi. The
airline also operates a freighter service between Doha and Chennai.
