From October to December 2005, SilkAir
is operating a series of 11 direct charter services to Nanning, the capital of South China's Guangxi province. The flights were
chartered by China's largest travel agency, China International Travel Service in Guilin, in cooperation with a consortium of Singapore-based tour operators.
The first of the weekly charters commenced on 15 October 2005 and will continue over 10 weeks till 24 December 2005 on SilkAir's A320 aircraft. The flights depart from
Singapore Changi Airport every Saturday at 18:10 hours and arrive in Nanning Wuxu Airport at
22:05 hours.
The weekly charters are the first-ever direct flights between Singapore and Nanning, viewed as one of China's fastest growing logistic hubs. The first flights were
launched to coincide with this year's China-ASEAN exposition - held in Nanning annually - which attracted more than 2,100 companies from 31 countries and regions.
Nanning and the province of Guanxi offer plenty of tourism appeal, with jagged green mountains and clear blue rivers, waterfalls, natural springs and canyons
dotting its landscape. Nanning is also an entry point for nearby Guilin, one of China's most-visited cities and long famed for its unique limestone karst hills.
8-day packages to Nanning start from S$788 per adult.
